Why Providence Changes the Lift Plan

The current FAA entry for Rhode Island T. F. Green International places PVD six miles south of Providence and lists an 8,700-by-150-foot principal runway. The airport is attended continuously, with Class C service during published approach-control hours. This is regional context, not authorization for an off-airport route. Local Constraints and Planning Responses

The FAA entry reports frequent flight-school, transient-jet, and vertical activity at PVD. It also directs helicopters to avoid residential areas below 1,000 feet. Exact coordinates, current charts, NOTAMs, obstacles, and the full area below a suspended load remain necessary for a Providence site.

The NOAA 1991–2020 normals for PVD report 47.54 inches of annual precipitation and 36.6 inches of annual snowfall. The station is in Warwick, so these are regional baselines rather than a Providence forecast. Current wind, visibility, precipitation, surface condition, and aircraft limits control the work window.

RIDOT’s current truck-restriction table lists a 48-ton Washington Bridge limit with no oversize loads and temporary clearance restrictions on Route 10 and Eddy Street.
