The Pocatello metropolitan area had 91,591 residents in the Census Bureau Vintage 2025 estimates. The city sits at the mouth of Portneuf Canyon near terrain that rises above 9,000 feet within 15 miles to the east, according to the NWS climatology.
The current FAA Pocatello Regional Airport entry places KPIH seven nautical miles northwest of the city at 4,452 feet. It lists 9,059-foot and 7,150-foot runways, scheduled Class D hours, Class E airspace outside those hours, and waterfowl near the airport.
Ground access converges around I-15 and I-86. Idaho Transportation Department completed the rebuilt system interchange in summer 2025 with eight new bridges.
