The Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 estimates place the Pittsburgh metropolitan area second in Pennsylvania’s guide set, at 2,421,992 residents on July 1, 2025. The full-metro count selects the guide. It is not Pittsburgh city population or evidence of project demand.
The current FAA Northeast Chart Supplement places Allegheny County Airport four miles southeast of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh International 12 miles northwest. AGC has two paved runways, a published helipad, and Class D airspace. PIT has four paved runway pairs. The Pittsburgh International continuation lists Class B airspace. A city-area aviation screen should account for both facilities before narrowing the review to exact coordinates and route.
Pittsburgh’s right-of-way management page assigns construction, use, and occupation between property lines to the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure. Its construction-staging permit covers machinery or materials in a parking lane and closures of part of a sidewalk or street. That ground permission does not replace property consent or aviation review. The permitting article explains the separation.
The National Weather Service Pittsburgh January normals show a 36.3-degree high, 21.4-degree low, 2.96 inches of precipitation, and 13.3 inches of snow. Cold surfaces and snow access deserve a schedule contingency. Current wind, visibility, temperature, precipitation, and surface reports still govern the proposed date.
The FAA entries for Allegheny County Airport and Pittsburgh International list birds and deer on or near both airports. Current charts, NOTAMs, temporary restrictions, obstacles, and exact coordinates remain necessary across the Class B and Class D environments.
The Port of Pittsburgh Commission’s Monongahela River page describes a heavily used barge route with six locks and dams, carrying coal, coke, iron, and steel. A riverfront plan cannot treat the water below as empty space. Current vessel traffic and the exact controlled area need a separate site review.

Working riverfronts and industrial sites require exact component weight, barge and rail interfaces, secure laydown space, and receiving geometry.

Hilltop sites may reduce road access while increasing obstacle and terrain exposure. Both airport systems belong in the first route screen.

River crossings and wooded slopes can favor aerial access for selected work, but conductor control and public areas below remain decisive.

Western Pennsylvania’s industrial terrain can present steep roads and isolated equipment positions. The aircraft method still needs a direct ground-access comparison.
The Monongahela joins the Allegheny in Pittsburgh to form the Ohio River. The Port Commission identifies an active commercial corridor carrying coal, coke, iron, and steel through a six-lock-and-dam system. That establishes a working industrial waterfront, not a finding that an aircraft is suitable for any terminal or plant.
Pittsburgh Water’s May 2026 infrastructure update documented four new pump units planned at Aspinwall and a Bruecken station designed with six pumps. The Clearwell bypass calls for large-diameter underground piping around a 44-million-gallon basin. Operating boundaries, buried assets, load data, and receiving geometry remain site-specific.
